How do you CE / UKCA mark a machine

The first thing to do is to identify what legislation your machine has to conform with. For machinery , the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC is the legislation for Europe and The Supply of Machinery (safety) Regulation 2008 is for the UK, which is derived from the previously mentioned directive.

Each has the same list of Essential Health and Safety requirements. you must demonstrate that you have assessed and mitigated the risk associated with these points.

You do that with the use of Harmonized, or technical standards. These standards have been published by professional committees and if harmonized they have been accepted by the European union. to the extent that they can give a presumption of conformity to the EHSR’s.

This feeds into a technical file that must be maintained for 10 years.

You create and sign a Declaration of Conformity and CE plate to affix to the machine.

For many machines this self certification route is the way to put machinery to market, some high risk machinery may require a notified body to check your work.

This is a brief explanation for demonstrative purposes and there can be caveats and clauses that are specific to an application.

There is changes coming as of the 20th January 2027 with the adoption of the Machinery Regulation(EU) 2023/1230 for CE marking in Europe

How does it work

Step -1

Pick up the phone or send us an e-mail. We can have a free chat for 30 minuets to identify what your requirements are, what Legislation you need to cover and review what you already have.

Step -2

We can get a site visit booked in and come and carry out a machine survey in person to see where you are in your compliance journey.

Step -3

carry out the initial assessment. We do this by using EN ISO 12100 to identify the hazards on the machine and methods of mitigating them.

The deliverables from this are:

  • EN ISO 12100 risk assessment

  • Essential Health and Safety Requirement cross reference

  • Action plan

We then book in a call to discuss what we have found and advised.

Step -4

That is up to you, Once we have the gaps identified and have advised on a what is required to be compliant. We can be with you as much or as little as you need.

We can let you carry out the corrective actions and then review it with you.

Or

We can deliver a turn key solution and do the work for you.

Or anything in between.
